Energizing PB and J Shake

There are fewer well-known flavour combos than peanut butter and jelly. They are a classic and you can never really go wrong especially in this healthy shake!

What really makes this healthy Peanut Butter and Jelly Shake so satisfying is that it ticks off at least 2 of the 5 flavours that our tastebuds sense: salty, sweet, bitter, sour and umami. While this is a simple flavour combo – it just works.

I elevated the flavour combo here with the addition of a banana, some vanilla and the addition of protein powder. What makes this shake particularly energizing is its balanced ratio of proteins, fibres and healthy fats that our body can use up as a steady fuel source – allowing us to keep moving through our day with a stable mood and energy levels.

Ingredients

  • 1 large ripe banana

  • 2.5 cups sliced strawberries, frozen

  • 200ml full-fat coconut milk, canned (about half the can)

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 tbsp maple syrup or raw honey

  • 2 tbsp vanilla protein powder

  • 3 tbsp peanut butter (unsalted, preferably organic)*

  • Pinch of salt

  1. Add all ingredients in the order listed to a high-speed blender.

  2. Blend on high until smooth and well combined. Add more oat milk if needed or if you prefer a thinner consistency.

  3. Enjoy!

*If using salted peanut butter you can omit the additional pinch of salt noted in the ingredient list

**To amp up the nutrient content you could also add 1/3 cup frozen zucchini or 1 tbsp of flax seed
